Kalihi Saddle

2Mi/ 3.2KM (2-3 Hours)

Difficulty: Advanced

Elevation: 1500/ 500m

Parking: No Parking. Must be dropped off by car; or ride a moped to the entrance/trailhead.

What to expect: The Kalihi saddle is a very sketchy hike along a eroding, basalt ridgeline. Expect a steep hike and to occasionally have to rock climb on crumbly basalt. The trailhead begins just west of the abandoned Tunnel building off the Likelike Highway (You get to this building from the access road on to the left when looking at the tunnels). This is not a maintained trail and is often overgrown.

You will most likely not see anyone else while hiking this trail, and the views from the top are phenomenal. Once at the top of the ridge you can follow the ridgeline to the various peaks along the saddle. Please be advised, this is only for experienced hikers/climbers.

The access road that takes you to the abandoned tunnel maintenance building is blocked by a gate. Thus why you must either get dropped off, or take a moped so you can maneuver around the gate.
